6.4. Single Object Description:
The monument is placed on a massive three step pedestal, plated with red stone (granite). The monument is made of a pedestal, a cubic base and a high pyramid trunk. On the upper area the obelisk displays a profile like a capital, over which a triangular pediment rises. On the main façade, in the capital’s corners there are two sculpted acroterions and painted in bronze. Over the capital, a rectangular prism decorated with acanthus leaf on top of which a bronze eagle with outstretched wings watches. On the pyramid trunk, the years “1916-1918” are engraved, and under this inscription a ribbon bow tied to a laurel branch is sculpted. Under this ornament, we find army insignia (engraved): the rifle, the sword, de battle banner, the helmet. On the main façade of the base these words are written: “To the heroes of the Otopeni commune, who died for the Nation’s unification”. On the right side of pyramid trunk the battle fallen heroes from Otopenii de Sus are inscribed, on the left façade the battle fallen heroes from Otopenii de Jos are listed, and on the rear façade the heroes from Odăile are listed. At the obelisk’s basis, on the front the work’s author is inscribed L.Martinis, followed by another inscription buried in the monument’s pedestal. On the monument’s axis an alley plated with the same red granite of the pedestal allows access to the monument.
