6.2. Description
The monument consists of a square based prism crossed in the lower third of the monument by another larger prism. On the intersected side there’s an inscription: “Eternal gratitude to the Gruiu village Heroes who fell in the First and Second World Wars for the nation’s glory”. On the two lateral sides, there are two relief sculptures cast in bronze and depicting battle scenes. On the high prism we find the army insignia: the laurel wreath and the helmet, and on the sides the names of battle fallen soldiers are listed – on the right hand side: The 1915-1919 War, on the left hand side 1941-1945. On the monument’s rear side the list of the Second World War fallen and one 1989 Revolution Hero are listed. On the rear side of the larger prism there’s an inscription: “The monument was built by the initiative and with the support of the Romanian Academy, the M. H. Elias Familly Foundation”. Sculptors Grigore Minea and Ionel Istoc. The monument is entirely plated with marble, above an outstretched wings eagle stands. Around the monument there’s a metal fence, on a composite concrete platform and four pillars in the corners made of reinforced composite concrete with a white marble top.
