6.4. Single Object Description:

The monument is a composition with an obelisk as the dominating central feature and a soldier making an inscription of the localities where great battles were fought during our nation’s unification war. The soldier is sitting on trenches, crouching, supported on his left hand holding his rifle and writing on the obelisk with his right hand. Above the truncated pyramid obelisk, made of stonework with a profile in the lower third and narrowing towards the top, there’s an eagle, wings outstretched and holding a cross in its beak, atop the royal crown and the nation’s flag. Left and right, there are Romanian army insignia on two pedestals: the helmet, the sword, the rifle, the grenade, the flag and oak leaves. The monument is placed on a red sandstone plated platform, the eagle is made of bronze, and the crown seems to be made of glazed ceramics. The monument is fenced with wrought iron held by steel beam supports, in a concrete frame plated with red sandstone. Behind the monument, there’s a wall plated with beige and red sandstone, holding a white marble plaque inscribed: “Our country’s Heroes 1941-1945” and the battle fallen heroes are listed.

6.4.1. Architectural Plan:

A square plan, elongated left and right with rectangles

On these trenches, on the right hand side there’s the inscription: “This monument is built by public subscription. 1925”, and lower the inscription “Sculptor I.Iordănescu" appears. Above the obelisk there’s the eagle with outstretched wings and holding a cross in its beak, atop the royal crown and the nation’s flag. Left and right, there are Romanian army insignia on two pedestals: the helmet, the sword, the rifle, the grenade, the flag and oak leaves. Behind the monument, there’s a wall plated with beige and red sandstone, holding a white marble plaque inscribed: “Our country’s Heroes 1941-1945” and the battle fallen heroes are listed. On the axis of this façade, a pedestal holding Romanian army insignia is placed: the helmet, the sword, the rifle, the grenade, the flag and oak leaves. On the left hand side façade, on the obelisk, it’s written “To the braves of the 1877-1878 war” and the heroes are listed, and lower “1913” and the name of a soldier is written.
