5.1. History:
Queen Mary of Romania took the initiative to build memorial monuments to the Heroes slain in the line of duty during the First World War. This is how the cross inside the Buftea city church grounds and the cross in Buftea city center were built. The monument was commissioned to honor the sacrifice of the inhabitants – the heroes of Buftea who participated in the First World War

6.4. Single Object Description:
A stone cross placed on two step pedestal, on a green space circular platform at the crossroad of Știrbei Vodă Street, Mihai Eminescu Street and 23 August Street. On the cross sides, on their edges, plant motif ornamentation frames are carved. On the cross, inscription marking the event and the words of Queen Mary, as well as the listed names of the heroes of 1916-1918.
6.4.1. Architectural Plan:
The monument lies in the center of the city, in a square at the crossroad of Știrbei Vodă Street, Mihai Eminescu Street and 23 August Street. The cross is oriented with its arms towards North-West – South East. The pedestal is a truncated pyramid with a square base, over which a square based prism is placed, smaller than the upper base of the truncated pyramid.
6.4.2. Facades:
The North East side - is on the central axis of the Mihai Eminescu Boulevard. On the vertical axis of the cross, the names of the heroes fallen in the line of duty is written.
On this side of the truncated pyramid, on a granite plaque the words "Glory to our heroes are written"
The South East side - on this side of the truncated pyramid, on a marble plaque the name of the "BUFTEA FIRST WORLD WAR HEROES" are listed.
The South West side - on this side of the truncated pyramid, on a marble plaque it is written: "HERE LIE FOR ETERNITY TWO UNKNOWN ROMANIAN SOLDIERS FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY"
On the cross’ vertical axis, on the upper area, lies written: "THE HEROES WHO BRAVELY DIED FOR THE NATION’S UNION 1916-1918".
At the meeting point of the cross arms, words of the Queen Mary are written: "DO NOT SHED TEARS BUT PRAISE YOUR HEROES SO THAT THEIR GLORY BE PASSED ON TO THE NEXT GENERATIONS
Queen Mary"
On the cross’ base soldiers’ names are listed.
The South West side - on this side of the truncated pyramid, on a marble plaque lies written:
"BUFTEA HERO OF THE INDEPENDENCE WAR 1877-1878 CRETU NEACŞU"
"BUFTEA HEROES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1941-1945", and the heroes are listed.
