6. DESCRIPTION
6.4. Single Object Description:
The monument displays a stone base, in a square plane, with three steps. The statue’s pedestal, made of stone, is made of a prism, narrowing at the top, over which a pyramid trunk is placed. In the higher third of the pedestal, on the edges, a torsade motif ornament is visible and upper still – there’s a laurel leaves motif. On the monument’s main façade, on the pyramid trunk, a stone plaque reads “To the Greci commune heroes who bravely died for their nation’s unification 1916-1918” followed by listing the battle fallen heroes. On the left and right sides of the plaque, a vine motif is engraved and colored. In the upper area of the plaque, the royal insignia stands with two ribbons left and right, initially colored in tricolor. In the upper area of the pedestal, laurel leaves are sculpted in the corners. On the sides of the pedestal, names of the battle fallen are engraved. On the rear side of the pedestal, it reads: “This monument is built by public subscription, by the initiative of the Local Committee, supported by the Central Committee 16-th of May 1926”. In the lower area, there’s an inscription of a more recent date: “Heroes of the 1877-1878 War” holding two soldiers’ names. Over the stone pedestal, a bronze statue of a soldier at ease is placed. The rifle touches the ground and is held with both arms at the muzzle. The backpack stands on the left hip, and on the belt the infantry shovel hangs. On the side of the backpack, a folded tent is fastened. On the right hip we find the ammunition box. The soldier is wearing a coat, and on its head there’s a helmet typically worn in the First World War. He is wearing boots.
